This is me. A blog about my daily life and slices-of-life. It's honest, it's funny, it's sad, it's witty, it's sarcastic, sometimes it's soapbox-ish, it sometimes rambles, sometimes it's artsy, sometimes it's dorky but, it is always honest and always me. (Which ever "me" decides to show up on that particular day.) Simply put, it's just my daily world that I'm trying to sort out the only way I know how, through words.

inner dork
Did you know the term, "spinster" refering to a woman who has never been married back in olden days refers to the fact that other than being a prostitute spinning yarn was pretty much the only way for a woman to make any kind of income. Therefore, if a woman wasn't married she was spinning yarn, or she was a spinster. Which, later became a term basically meaning, old maid.
I knew a girl that got married in Jamaica and her marriage certificte said she was a "spinster." She turned to her husband and said "honey, how did they know I take spinning classes?"
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether I should laugh or cry.
ReplyDeletewhy do men get to be old and single and they get elegant terms like "bachelor" or "playboy" and women have to be spinsters and old maids?
ReplyDeleteah, the old double standard. Not to mention the fact that you can be an old maid by your late 30's-40's...lovely.
