I GOT IT!!

That incredibly low paying, high networking job, yeah, it's mine! I start tomorrow. Monday-Friday 9-12. Now, I won't be working this job for the money. Seriously, the pay is laughable and by far the worst pay I've ever been offered. How laughable and how bad you ask, my take home will be less than $300 a month. Yes, that was a month. I am doing the job to: get on a schedule because mine is currently horrible, (falling asleep around 4 a.m. up around 11 a.m.) to network, and to meet some people cause I know two people here. One is a friend, Phil, who is married and really wants to sleep with me. The other is a former employee and I don't know that I would actually consider her a friend. Me need some peeps to hang with and also to utilize my vocal cords.
So, let's hope I get the additional student loans I need because yeah, less than $300 a month won't exactly pay the bills.
But, typically I have always been the happiest at the jobs where I make the least amount of money. So, I expect to be ecstatic every single day at work.

Whoo-hoo!

You are an interesting character and I enjoy reading your blogs, it's weird that a person would take this job because of the pay, but networking is key to success? I don't know, but obviously money is not much of a concern? enjoy work and enjoy life.. oh yeah your painting, "love" I love it.

SMART GIRL!

The two jobs I had when I was in college both paid crap... but they both gave me great experience... and also gave me great networking opportunities which paid for themselves when I got out of school and started looking for other jobs.

And to shong, never under estimate the value of networking. When moving jobs I have found networking to be the biggest key.

Money doesn't guarantee happiness. But having enough can make life a lot less stressful. Ben Stein Here's to less stress!

Wow, you are so going to be loving the ramen noodles. At five for a buck you'll be able to eat for a week! Do you have ramen noodles where you are, cos, I mean here in NYC they are a staple for the starvingly up and coming? Had you called on me when you were here, you'd know this. But hey, you didn't. Yeah, no hard feelings or anything. Really.

Oh and thanks for the awesomwly uplifting message. You rule. Even thought you didn't call me...

Shong: During my soul-sucking years, ala Corp. America, I learned that money may pay the bills, but it doesn't pay for my happiness.

Nick: Thanks! Everyone that I know who is successful and happy in their current position had to do with who they know, not with what they know. ( i.e.: Mr. London, he is currently in London based on a recommendation from a former employer. That's what got him the job.) All 5 of my (additional) jobs this summer had to do with networking and knowing the right people. I'm hoping the same thing will happen with the latest opportunity.

Bob: Ben Stein, the lottery, having men buy me drinks at the bar, you know, whatever.

Tom: Hmmm, ramen noodles. Remember when those were good? Then one day in a harmless act you read the nuritional information and realize it is the sodium content of that little seasoning packet that has kept you for peeing for the past 35 hours.

Oh, and student loan refund. That will be what I will actually be living on. Let's eat to more debt! Hey, look, ramen.

(And you can get nine for a dollar here. Ah, Midwest prices and bladder thresholds.)

networking is the key to any success, I'm completely and utterly convinced of it. Congrats on getting the job (I don't think any of us had a doubt!). Can't wait to hear your stories of networking gone bad!!

Most cool jobs pay shit. It's just the way it is unless you are really really lucky. Then there are cases like mine where the pay is shit and so is the job. :) Congrats on your new job. And what's with Phil?? Then again, having seen your naked thursday posts in the past I guess one can't blame him. He's obviously not blind.

As they said in Bloom County: "Money won't buy love, but it does improve your bargaining position"

Good luck kid.

ptg: I know you always have my back. I think the job will prove interesting. When the other afternoon gal came in she asked about my morning, I told her it was uneventful. She told me not to get used to it and enjoy it while it lasts.

*Cue theatrical music.*

Will: Hmmm, shrimp.
Or was that chicken?

GG: Phil and I have been friends for several years. He is the one who told me about the program, ect. He is very persistent in his requests.
I am very persistent in my saying, your married and it isn't going to happen.
I've been thinking about writing about it, but I find it too disappointing and too disheartening.

Limpy: Kid? Who you calling a kid?!?
Kiddin.

And I like that quote, that's clever. It's also very true. I'm a single female. I know these things. Just sayin'.
