The Power of One: what would you do?

Some thoughts for the day:

If you found yourself in the middle of a war, a genocide, and you were able to help, would you? Would you be the person who would risk yourself, your life, to help others, to help strangers at the risk of yourself?

Who would you be in the face of danger? In the face of a humanitarian crisis?

Of course there is no way to know what we would do until we are placed in that situation, but what does your heart and your mind tell you, say that you would do?

Left to my own devices I have no doubt I'd be doing what I could to save people. But if doing so were to put my children in danger, I admit I'd think two or three times. Those little bastards come first.

It may be my own melodramatic tendancies, but I think I'm in the middle of a little war right here on Small Campus. I'd like to think that my experiences here doing this type of work has taught me to always put as much of myself out there as possible to help other people. I've breathed life into a person, I've helped heal a person, I've held a furious person back when all they wanted to do was hurt someone. I've responded to people who hurt themselves, or wanted to end everything.

I work to be the calm one. The shoulder to lean on, the one that you feel relieved to see in the middle of a crisis... I hope that I would be able to keep that up when things were harder!

I'll probably take a lot of flack for saying this, but I think I would do what I could to save my own ass.

Mine and my family's, that is.

Limpy: and those little bastards should come before me and all other virtual strangers. No matter how much I don't think they ultimately should,I guess I'll let it go.

Bre: I hear ya. I think if we sat back and really thought about it, we all do things like that throughout our day. Maybe not always dramatic, or life threatening, but in some way, we all put ourselves second for someone else.

OMC: No, you're simply being honest. I don't have a husband or kids, but I have a family. I would absolutely do what I could to save them first and then I would do what I could to save others.

I think I would put myself in danger for others. I think I would risk my life to try and save others. However, I ultimately don't know what I would really do.
